LS Revisions Update Heads up - The second phase of the revised NLS program is coming!
The first phase has been launched and included changes to first aid and CPR. These changes have been incorporated into the NLS program and instructors must now be evaluating candidates based on these changes.
The second phase includes new and revised test items based on the core competencies of an NLS Lifeguard: judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. The new test items have been designed to challenge and enhance these competencies in each lifeguard. Details on the second phase roll-out will be posted here as they become available.
Please note: The second phase of the NLS revision is primarily fitness and has not rolled out. The new fitness items are not to be evaluated in full courses or recerts. The new NLS Award Guide defining the fitness items has not been released and NLS instructors have not been updated to evaluate these items.
Check out the NEW PHYSICAL STANDARDS to be implemented with the second phase of revisions.
A great way to get fit and enhance your lifeguard skills is to get involved with Lifeguard Competiion. UBC and Coquitlam are holding competition training sessions for new and experienced guards/competitors. Try it — you will be back for more, it's addictive!
